Healthcare construction requires cleanliness during the project

Infection control adds a layer of focus to the healthcare construction process

Many of the healthcare construction projects that IEI General Contractors completes take place in existing facilities. This creates additional cleanliness considerations compared to new construction projects, and our crews have the expertise needed to ensure the inevitable mess does not compromise active operations.

Healthcare construction requires attention to a specific set of quality control standards,” says Brandon Martzke, vice president of IEI. “We have extensive experience in the infection control protocols that come into play when working in an active healthcare setting.”

Temporary partition walls between phases of the project, infection control barriers, and adherence to process protocols ensure contamination does not occur during the course of healthcare construction. Wall protection and designer wall protection panels keep the operational areas of an active facility looking good.

As a union commercial contractor, IEI provides building owners with the confidence that all crews have the training necessary to perform their roles within the context of a healthcare construction environment.

IEI’s healthcare construction delivers HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital

IEI has completed a number of healthcare construction projects for systems in Wisconsin, including a multi-year renovation within Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. The project culminated in the development of HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital inside the existing main hospital building.

In addition to serving as general contractor, IEI crews performed demolition, concrete and carpentry work, including the installation of all the casework and solid surface components. This comprehensive healthcare construction project took place in stages over a four-year period, with 2022 seeing extensive renovations to the existing space.

Additional rooms were added to the newly remodeled pediatric and pediatric intensive care units, a new family lounge and space for laundry provides family members and caregivers a place to refresh, and a new teen lounge gives teen patients and family members a homey space to share time together.

IEI’s focus on safety and infection control makes us the healthcare construction general contractor of choice for health systems throughout the region.
